Harvey Weinstein harassed, assaulted, and raped women for decades before facing exposure and censure. Our current president called his female opponent a “nasty woman” and bragged about sexually assaulting women. According to the CDC, almost 1 in 5 women will experience rape during their lifetime and about 1 in 20 will be the victim of sexual violence other than rape. Yet Men’s Rights Advocates are trying to make “feminism” a dirty word. Even feminist allies may claim that sexism and gender discrimination is “over and done with.” We’re not living in a post-sexist or post-feminist society; why are so many people eager to say otherwise? Join this session to talk about the persistence of sexism and the war on feminism. The discussion will be led by Dr. Jaime Weida from the English Department.
